Keeping Active with your Kids: Healthy Family Recipes

Healthy family and healthy kids.

It’s been a while since our last blog post, and for that, we apologize. We’ve spent the entire summer helping our clients reach their weight-loss goals with great success, and we’re now focusing on a few other things as we approach the gradual shifting of the seasons.

As the weather changes, our eating habits and activity levels can also follow suit. We all know that summertime is perfect for a variety of activities designed to keep us in shape and lose weight in the healthiest of ways, yet sometimes we can lose sight of what’s important as the colder weather approaches.

The age-old adage stating that a family in motion has a tendency to stay in motion is still accurate. With that said, we’d like to offer a few pointers that you may or may not already be aware of.

Your kids can play a huge role in the overall physical shape of your family, yet they’ll need a little guidance with this proposal. It’s always worth a try, and it may also be a fun way to create some awesome memories.

Get the kids to plan exercise events

Let your kids plan a few different physical exercise events for the whole family to enjoy, and make sure to get some footage of whichever activities they have in mind.

Having fun while burning calories may end up turning into some intense competitions, when bragging rights may lead to a series of events based on a point system. Whoever has the most points at the end will be rewarded with the big prize, which should also be discussed beforehand.

Let the kids help make dinner

While these family activities can be both fun and healthy, meal planning doesn’t necessarily have to involve the same old boring thing.

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to let the kids help make dinner, or if you dare, let them take what they’ve learned from you and prepare a sensational sibling-made meal all by themselves!

Even though there are a thousand ways to prepare chicken, give them a simple recipe for starters, such as grilled chicken breasts with steamed vegetables and a garden salad. The steamed veggies segment can include anything from glazed green beans to spinach pie, or any nutritious side-dish of your choosing.

Try doing this at least once a week

The importance of gaining knowledge about nutrition will give your kids a head start towards healthy eating in general, and what it takes to maintain balanced diets and healthy lifestyles along the way.

Always remember that consistency plays an important role in this ongoing process, and if all goes as planned, adopting these healthy habits may become second nature for all members of your family!
